Intel UrbanMax

UrbanMax is a mobile computer prototype measuring just 1 inch thick, looking like a tablet PC but with a sliding keyboard and a 11.1-inch touch-sensitive wide display that tilts up to a laptop screen level. It will feature the N-trig's DuoSense digitizer technology, characterized by a battery-free pen, 0 pressure capacitive touch, multi-touch functionality, and low power consumption."N-trig's DuoSense technology allows OEMs and ODMs to produce innovative new mobile and wireless computing devices that are not currently available on the market today," said Amihai Ben-David, CEO of N-trig. "We are excited to be collaborating with Intel and other Tier 1 players who are recognizing our breakthrough and innovative technology." The touch and pen digitizer is located in front of any size LCD display, and is thin, lightweight and transparent, supporting Windows XP Tablet and Windows Vista operating systems support, with on-board upgradeable firmware. N-trig created the battery-free electrostatic stylus providing the power source from the magnetic energy produced by the excitation coil located in the digitizer, while the user can access the tablet either using finger touch or this stylus. The surface is a capacitive sensing system featuring fast response time, drag and drop, scroll, flicks and select.
The precise input is accomplished using palm rejection capability, which differentiates between unwanted contact and intentional input. You can also use multiple fingers to manipulate files, thanks to the multi-touch support, which allows for zooming, panning, rotate and double-tap via the Hands-on Gestures technology. This is the information we have at the moment about the Intel UrbanMax high-end tablet and we can conclude that when it’ll be available on the market it will be the top model of its kind featuring the latest computer technology.

MacBook Air: Apple’s latest laptop

The laptop took a new meaning with the newest invention of Apple. It is so thin it fits in a regular manila envelope. In a speech in front of about 4000 attendees to MacWorld conference (San Francisco), Steve Jobs showed the latest model of laptops: MacBook Air. With the theatrical style that characterizes him, Steve Jobs took out a regular manila envelope, legal size, and removed a real live Macbook Air. Jobs claimed he have made a comparison with all the current thinnest laptops. The MacBook Air will be available in stores in two weeks and it will cost $1,799. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It’s 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep. Acer 9800: 20-inch HD DVD laptop

It's official: the PC world has gone utterly big-screen crazy. Barely a week has passed since we reviewed Samsung's 19-inch laptop, and blogged rockdirect's equally large SLI alternative, but we've just been hit with another bombshell -- a 20-inch laptop from Acer. Dubbed the Aspire 9800, this beast has a glorious six-lamp 20-inch TFT display running at a native resolution of 1,680x1,050 pixels. What's more, Acer is planning to release a version of the 9800 that incorporates an HD DVD disc drive.
The Aspire 9800 uses uses Centrino Duo architecture including a Core Duo processor, up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and the Intel 945PM chipset. Graphics arrive courtesy of an Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card with a dedicated 256MB of Turbocache memory. There's the usual assortment of video-output ports, and you even get an HDMI port with High-bandwidth Digital Concent Protection) support so you can output your HD DVD movies to a large high-definition display. It runs Windows XP Media Center Edition and, impressively, uses two 120GB hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration to deliver 240GB of storage space. There are versions of the laptop with two hybrid TV tuner supporting digital Freeview and analogue broadcasts, and you get a substantial audio system with Dolby Digital Live support.
The base model Aspire 9800 is set for a May release date and will set you back around £1,500 -- which we think is pretty remarkable. The price of the all-singing, all-dancing HD DVD version is currently unconfirmed, but Acer has unofficially said it'll be released in June. -RR

Sony VGN-AR270
Sony's Vaio series of laptops are probably the most coveted notebooks and have a brand recognition that is second to none. The VGN-AR270 is the current undisputed king of media center laptops. You might be wondering what makes us say that. Well for starters, it comes with the fastest Core 2 Duo processor T7600 (2.33 GHz), 400 GB of HDD space (200x2) and 2 GB of DDR2 533 MHz system memory. The graphics is handled by a powerful 7600 GT subsystem. It has a large 17-inch screen capable of a native resolution of 1920x1200 (1080p ready) and sports a Blu-Ray writer. All of the above specifications put together make a laptop that will give most desktop machines a complex.
If that was not powerful enough, it ships with a huge array of connectivity ports, which include three USB 2.0 slots, one Firewire port, Cardbus support and even HDMI. With such a wide plethora of connectivity options, next-generation Hi-Def options and powerful specifications this laptop at a cost of Rs 1,99000 stands head and shoulders above the competition.

Dell XPS M1710

Dell XPS M1710
Dell has certainly learnt the art of reading trends and serving up laptops that will satisfy even the most demanding consumers. One of the things we really like about Dell is the amount of choice we get in terms of budget and tech offerings. Dell decided to offer this laptop as a media center laptop offering. Its latest model has moved to the Core2Duo platform. The new refresh changes the CPU to the fastest Core2 Duo chip available—the T7600 (with clock speed of 2.33 GHz). It also gets an upgrade to its graphical subsystem and is now powered by the 7950 GTX 512 MB card. The laptop's 17-inch LCD panel also remains the same and retains its HD-ready resolution of 1900x1200 (WUXGA). The storage space has been upgraded from 100 GB to 160 GB and system memory doubled from 1 GB to 2 GB. In terms of connectivity, the laptop continues to be fully equipped with six USB 2.0 slots, VGA and DVI outputs, a 4-in1 memory card reader and FireWire. An interesting upgrade to the Wi-Fi connectivity is the upgrade to 802.11n, which is a good move as it makes the laptop future ready. All in all, priced at Rs 1,49,000, this laptop is a perfect machine to run Vista and enjoy full media center functionality
